A female teacher has been accused of saying at a Chinese university that there is no data showing 300,000 victims of the Nanjing Massacre. The U.S. Huajie media outlet TWITI reported the news on March 16.
Shanghai Zhendan Vocational Institute explained on March 15 that a report from an Internet user revealed that a female teacher at the school’s Oriental Film Academy had made “excessive propaganda” and “inappropriate remarks” during class. The school announced that it would investigate the matter and take strict action.
The female teacher said in class on March 14, “The 300,000 Nanking Massacre (victims) is not backed up by actual data. It is just a folk belief.” “How many people did the Japanese military kill in Nanking at that time? Who died? Who has a name? If there are no family names, no names, and no identification, then these 300,000 are just an outline written in Chinese historical novels,” he said.
An Internet user said, “I hope this is not overlooked in the name of academia. This teacher is demanding a list of 300,000 real names from the war. This is not just stupid, it’s appalling. Furthermore, he is making us (the victims) reflect on why there is a war and making the invaders reflect on why they were invaded,” he wrote.
The People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, has published the following article on this issue: “There is a mountain of evidence that the Japanese invaded China and slaughtered 300,000 of their compatriots in Nanjing. All sensible Chinese must keep history in mind and protect the truth. (Translation and editing by Kitada)
