(independent), submitted to the Ministry of Unification a letter of background describing how she attended a memorial ceremony for victims of the Great Kanto Earthquake hosted by the General Federation of Korean Residents in Japan (Federation of Korean Industries) on March 13.
Yun attended a memorial ceremony organized by the Federation of Korean Industries in Tokyo on the 1st of this month, the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake, and was criticized by the conservative ruling party, the People’s Power, and others. The party submitted a disciplinary proposal for Yun to the National Assembly Special Committee on Ethics.
On June 6, the Unification Ministry sent a letter to Yun and nine others who attended the ceremony sponsored by the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, requesting them to submit a background report by the 13th.
The Unification Ministry will review the background report and determine whether to require additional explanation or impose a fine. If it is determined that they had contact with North Korean residents without reporting it, a deliberative committee will be convened and a fine will be issued. If it is determined that they violated the North-South Exchange and Cooperation Law, which requires prior notification of contact with North Koreans, the maximum fine of 2 million won (approx. 220,000 yen) will be imposed, taking into consideration past violations.
