A “Surprising Development” in the Comfort Women Movement
In many ways, leftist civil society groups in South Korea have been campaigning for Japan to reflect on its past.
They have always maintained that their claims and principles were “social justice (anti-Japanese justice),” even if they sometimes went against the national interests of both countries, but under the Yun Seok-yeol administration, their activities are increasingly being exposed as “lies.
Against this backdrop, there has been an uproar over the comfort women issue, which is a major problem between Japan and Korea.
One of South Korea’s leading “folk artists,” Im Ok-sang, has undertaken and produced a number of works in which he has used comfort women as a motif.
It was discovered that such a person had indecently assaulted a female staff member at an art institute that he himself headed and operated. In August, the first trial in which Lin Yuxiang was indicted resulted in a guilty verdict.
Busy in the wake of such an uproar is the city of Seoul, which has displayed a number of artworks featuring comfort women in public places.
Well, why…!
The Seoul Metropolitan Government moved to remove the defendant’s artworks, which were installed in Seoul Municipal Facilities.
However, when the city of Seoul decided to remove the artwork, the first to bite the hand that feeds it was the Japan Federation of the Righteous.
The Federation for Justice is an organization that has long claimed to stand by the victims of comfort women. It is incomprehensible that it would demand that the work of an artist who has shown the greatest disdain for women’s rights be left behind.
Furthermore, in the midst of such an uproar, the former head of the Justice Federation, Councilor Mika Yun, visited Japan and participated in an event, which has caused a stir.
On September 1, the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake, various groups in Japan held memorial events, and both the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Korean Nationalist Organization in Japan (Min-dan) held events to mark the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake. Korean National Assembly member Mika Yun participated in the event organized by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions. The Korean National Assembly member, Yun Mika, for some reason participated in the event organized by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, which was immediately pointed out as a violation of the National Security Law, and the uproar grew.
The recent uproar makes one wonder what both the Federation of Korean Industries Unions and Yun Mika are trying to accomplish. It is still fresh in our minds that many suspicions have surfaced about the “revelations” about the JUSTICE REN. In the midst of all this, one can’t help but wonder who they are doing this for and what they are doing.
The Korean Government’s “Movement
Recently, a news website called “News Breakthrough” has been making headlines in South Korea.
According to a report by the “Presidential Election Manipulation Gate Truth Investigation Team,” which was established by the Yun administration to combat fake news, it is suspected of obtaining patronage and support money by spreading fake news favorable to the “Co-operative Democratic Party” in the 2020 presidential election.
In South Korea, the misdeeds of leftist lawmakers, groups, and activists are increasingly coming to light, and some groups have had their government subsidies cut by 75%. The only hope for these activists is donations from their supporters, which are not coming in as fast as they would like. South Korea may be steadily moving toward normalization.
We can have some hope in this, but we cannot yet rest easy.
