Amidst the controversial sanitation problems at the Qingdao Brewery in China, a vendor illegally slaughtered 1,000 cats and sold them as pork or mutton.
Investigations confirmed that the operator of the slaughterhouse was attempting to sell the cats as pork or mutton. An animal rights activist told the state-run Penjing Newspaper that cat meat costs 4.5 yuan (about 90 yen) per pound, while mutton costs 30 yuan (about 620 yen) per pound, and that the operator tried to slaughter the cats and sell the cat meat at the price of mutton.
