The Chinese government’s response to the issue of the arbitrary installation of “maritime buoys” in Japan’s EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture is now being questioned by the Fumio Kishida administration. The buoy was confirmed in July, and the government protested to the Chinese side and demanded its immediate removal, but Japan has not removed it. This is in contrast to the Philippines, which has removed floating barriers set up by China in its EEZ. If the Philippines is left to its own devices, the Xi Jinping administration, which makes no secret of its territorial ambitions, could make this an established fact.
